To provide clients with an upfront estimate of the total fee, I usually quote rates per word. To determine the level of editing you require, see Services for details of each service and send me two or three sample pages of your document for my review and fee quotation. 

  • Proofreading: $0.015 per word ($3.75 per 250-word page)
  • Basic copyediting: $0.02 per word ($5 per 250-word page)
  • Substantive and ESL copyediting: $0.03 per word ($7.50 per 250-word page) or $50 per hour (rate depends on amount of work).
For large projects and students, these fees are negotiable.

My fees are competitive. Some editing services charge less but may not deliver on quality. Some services charge more and may still not deliver on quality. 

Minimum Charge and Rush Fee

I charge a minimum of $40 per document. An additional 20 percent of the total fee is charged for rush jobs.

Additional Pages

Discrepancies in word counts will be discussed with the client. The cost of editing additional pages, not included in the original page estimate, will be added to the final invoice. Turnaround time may be affected.


Most projects can be completed within two to six days depending on the complexity of the editing task. I will provide an estimate of the turnaround time when I have reviewed sample pages.


A deposit of approximately one third of the total fee is due when you sign the contract. The balance is due upon completion of the project. You will receive an invoice at that time. Payments can be made with a credit or debit card through an e-mailed Paypal payment request. You can also pay by check or bank wire.
